What Is SMARTS?

Self-monitoring is an essential life skill that helps children understand, reflect on, and improve their own social, emotional, and behavioral health. The SMARTS program—Self-Monitoring And Regulation Training Strategy—offers a practical, engaging Tier 2 or Tier 3 support program for students in grades K–5.

Developed by experts in child behavior and school-based intervention and co-produced with input from teachers and students, SMARTS provides a clear framework, evidence-based rationale, and all the tools needed for effective implementation.

Self Monitoring Matters

Unlike traditional approaches that rely primarily on teacher observation alone, SMARTS empowers students to take an active role in tracking and shaping their own goals.

This student-centered process strengthens motivation, builds confidence, and helps children develop meaningful self-regulation skills that can last a lifetime.
